What’s Working, What’s Not: A June Self-Check-In

June marks the halfway point of the year—a natural pause in the calendar where we can take a breath, step back, and honestly assess where we are. This isn’t about judgement or pressure; it’s about clarity, curiosity, and self-compassion.

Life moves fast, and it’s easy to get swept along without stopping to check in with ourselves. But real growth happens when we take time to reflect—not just on what’s not working, but also to celebrate what is.

So today, I’m inviting you to join me in a gentle mid-year self-check-in.

✨ Start with a Breath, Then Ask: What’s Working?

We often rush into fixing mode without recognising what’s already going well. Let’s change that.

Ask yourself:

  • What routines or habits have been supporting my energy and wellbeing?

  • Where have I made progress—however small?

  • What has felt aligned, joyful, or purposeful lately?

  • What am I proud of since the start of the year?

Write these down. Let them land. Let yourself feel the wins, even if they’re quiet or imperfect. Progress is rarely loud—and it rarely looks like perfection.

💬 “I’ve been consistent with my morning walks.”
“I’ve been setting clearer boundaries.”
“I finally launched that thing I kept talking about.”

Your wins count. Every single one of them.

🌀 Now Gently Explore: What’s Not Working?

This isn’t about shame or failure. This is about noticing where friction is showing up so you can respond with intention.

Reflect on:

  • What habits or patterns are draining me?

  • What feels heavy, forced, or out of sync?

  • Where am I feeling stuck or unmotivated?

  • What am I tolerating that I don’t want to carry into the second half of the year?

Sometimes what’s not working isn’t a flaw—it’s a signal. A nudge. A whisper that something needs adjusting.

💬 “I keep saying yes when I mean no.”
“My evenings feel rushed and scattered.”
“I haven’t been prioritising rest or joy.”

Be honest, but be kind. You’re gathering information, not grading yourself.

🔁 What Needs to Shift?

Now that you’ve named what’s working and what’s not, ask:

  • What’s one thing I want to do more of this summer?

  • What’s one thing I want to let go of?

  • What needs a tweak, not a total overhaul?

  • Where can I give myself permission to try a new approach?

You don’t need to rewrite your whole life. A few intentional shifts can create powerful momentum.

🧭 Create a Gentle June Focus

As you move through the rest of June, choose a focus word or theme to guide you.

Examples:

  • Flow – Letting things move without force

  • Boundaries – Protecting your time and energy

  • Joy – Prioritising what makes you feel alive

  • Clarity – Getting honest about what you want

  • Simplicity – Letting go of the extra noise

Let that word anchor you when things feel busy or blurry.

📝 Want to Try This in Writing?

Here’s a simple journaling prompt to help you process:

  1. Three things that are working for me right now:

  2. Three things that are not working (and why they might not be):

  3. One shift I’m ready to make:

  4. My focus word for the rest of June:

🌱 Final Thoughts

Checking in with yourself is an act of self-respect. You deserve time to pause, reflect, and realign. Whether this year has felt amazing, messy, or somewhere in between—you’re allowed to start fresh.

You haven’t missed your chance. You’re right on time.

Let June be your pivot point.

If you found this post helpful, feel free to share your reflections with me or pass this along to someone else who might need a mid-year moment of clarity.

Here’s to moving forward with purpose—and compassion. 🌞
